Cartooning Pickles ... All in the name of Science!

If I had to make a Top 10 list of the weirdest and funniest things I've ever had to cartoon, pickles would be very close to the top, if not number one!

Maybe it's because of the way they look ...

Maybe it's because of the way they feel ...

Or maybe it's the way they sound ...

*C-R-U-N-C-H!*

Whatever the reason, I cartoon these pickles in the name of Science! And you'll be able to see them in full colour, along with my other "Home Lab" illustrations, in the March-April 2011 issue of YES Mag: The Science Magazine for Adventurous Minds.

For this "Home Lab" science experiment, kids will learn about the wonders of "Amphibian Antifreeze"*.

(* Frog legs not included.)

... Don't worry, parents, that's where the pickles come in!

For now, you can still pick up a copy of YES Mag #80 at bookstores and magazine stands. Inside, you'll find many great science articles for children themed on shipwrecks. And don't forget to try the "Home Lab" experiment on "The Nuts and Bolts of Rusting" ...

Reader's Digest Canada Magazine - January 2011 CoverThe January 2011 issue of Reader's Digest Canada Magazine is now available at bookstores and newsstands.

This month, one of my gag cartoons is published in the As Kids See It department on Page 63. Special thanks to the editors at Reader's Digest Canada!

Here's a sneak peak ...

Reader's Digest Canada Magazine - Crash Course Gag Cartoon by Mike Cope - January 2011
Gag Cartoon: "Crash Course" in RD Canada Magazine (January 2011).

I've titled this particular gag cartoon "Crash Course" and dedicate it to all you kids (young and old!) who will be hitting the slopes and hills over the upcoming winter months with your toboggans, sleds, tires, skis, and any other snow-swooshing vehicle that you don't need a license to legally operate!

Enjoy the rides and don't let a wipeout (or two) stop you from climbing back up that hill :)
